Work I've Shown
“The function of the artist is not to translate an observation but to express the shock of the object on his nature.”
1995 - 2016 -- More than 100 of my paintings, collages and relief's have been included in juried shows throughout New York and New Jersey with many receiving jurors awards.
September 2000 -- Twenty five of my paintings were exhibited in a two person show - “Perspectives In Color” - at the Oakland Street Gallery in Red Bank NJ. Below is an excerpt from a review of that show by Greater Media Newspapers:
“Perlmutter work’s with an array of shapes and objects in a color fields style. His paintings are mostly large like Blue Bottle that depicts three fall colored leaves in a blue bottle with a background of purple, green and yellow squares. With it’s clean lines and vibrant colors it’s a prime example of his abstract and representation work”
January 2009 -- Three of my paintings were selected for the Art Connections 5 Exhibit at theGeorge Segal Gallery at Montclair State University, Montclair NJ.
October 2009 -- Two of my paintings were included in the City University of New York Small Works Exhibit at the 2/20 Gallery in the New York City Chelsea Art District.
January 2010 -- My paintings "Celebration" and "Down The Shore" - were chosen as featured works and exhibited at the gallery entrance for the Art Connections 6 Exhibit at the George Segal Gallery at Montclair State University. (Less than 10% of the more than 1,600 works entered were selected.)
June / July 2010 -- Several of my Abstract and Impressionist paintings were exhibited at the Oceanic Free Library in Rumson, New Jersey.
March 2011 -- My painting "Pile of Boxes" was selected for the Wide Open Exhibit at the Brooklyn Waterfront Arts Collation Gallery. The juror was Nathan Trotman, a Curator at The Guggenheim Museum of Art in NYC. (Less than 7% of works entered were selected.)
November / December 2011 -- Fifteen of my new Pop / Expressionist paintings were exhibited at the 2/20 Gallery in the NYC Chelsea Art District. Gallery & Studio Magazine cited it as my "Solo Début" to the NYC Art Scene and named it "Homage to the Box". Below is an excerpt from it's review:
“Perlmutter takes the simple packing crate and gift box as his sole subject. In purely formal terms one could compare his strategy to Josef Albers’ selection of the simple rectangle as the focus of his ‘Homage to the Square series.”
October / November 2012 - Sixteen of my new Pop / Expressionist paintings were exhibited in a one person show entitled "Ordinary Things" at the 2/20 Gallery in the NYC Chelsea Art District. Below is a quote from Gallery & Studio Magazine's review of the show:
“Perlmutter makes us regard simple things in a new light, as if for the first time, monumentalized yet not parodied in the manner of Pop. Rather, we suddenly see them as objects of beauty.”
2013 - 2016 - Though I continued to paint during this period other then the Monmouth Museum exhibit (see below) I did not participate in any shows or events involving my Art because of a need to focus on family and other important issues.
December 2015 - My painting "Catamaran" was selected for the annual juried Holiday Art Show at the Monmouth Museum in Tinton Falls NJ.
“Great art is the outward expression of an inner life in the artist, and this inner life will result in his personal vision of the world.”
