Painted in 2011 on a Gallery Wrap Canvas that does not require framing for display.
"Red Boxes" - a painting from my "Box's" series - was included in my NYC Chelsea Gallery show "Homage to the Box". It's an objective representation of a stack of 3 covered hat like boxes in varying shades of red. However, a review of the show (see excerp below) set the work apart as a Color Field composition.
"Red Boxes,” an acrylic on canvas in a tall narrow format consisting of three same-size stacked rectangles, separated by three subtly more orange-inflected stripes.--- so innately, formal, so abstract that one might almost mistake the painting for a Rothko. On learning the title --- however, the viewer realizes that what he or she is looking at is actually a quite literal representation of three gaily colored gift boxes with contrasting lids that read as the 'stripes'."
