Painted in 2010 on a Gallery Wrap Canvas that does not require framing for display.
"Pile of Boxes" is a figurative study of a pile of vibrantly colored common gift boxes immersed in a faded - shades of gray - checkerboard grid adding to it's sense of volume already created by the use of mechanical perspective techniques. It was on display at my 2011 NYC Chelsea Gallery show "Homage To The Box" and singled out for praise* in a review by Gallery and Studio Magazine as follows:
"Among Perlmutter’s most dynamitic paintings ... Stack of Boxes and Pile of Boxes feature cubic shapes in ... blatantly artificial hues ... stately arrangements or ostensibly random (but skillfully organized) ... they project a simultaneous sense of occupying deep space with an almost contradictory emblematic presence."
Notes:
(1) A copy of the magazine cover and review page will be included with the painting.
